PEISHOA, Reg Affleck Memorial Highlight Boxing Day Card In Charlottetown

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Boxing Day racing takes center stage Friday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park with a 16-dash card featuring the PEISHOA Pace, the Reg Affleck Memorial and the Boxing Day Pace, all leading into a deep Preferred feature.

The Boxing Day card has a 12:30 P.M., opening post time which will also see the Kent Oakes Memorial Bursary, presented by Red Shores and the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association, presented to four deserving participants after race 6 of the afternoon.

The Fillies & Mares PEISHOA Pace in race 3 carries a $3,400 purse and brings together a compact but evenly matched group of distaffers. Woodmere Honeymoon leaves from post 2 with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for trainer Carson Wilkie, as the daughter of Bet The Moon rides a two-race win streak for owner Christa Dunsford of Donagh. Tobins Brownie (To be driven by Adam Merner) is a major contender with rail control as well as Tells Bells (Mike McGuigan) from post 5.

Race 5 is the Reg Affleck Memorial for a $2,900 purse and it draws a bulky field with Good Omen (Paul Langille) getting the nod from post 5 for owners Ellie Driscoll and Rosanne Langille of Nova Scotia. The son of Betterthancheddar takes on eight rivals including Melody Maker (Ryan Desroche) from post 8 and Here Comes Emmett (Barrieau) with rail control.

The Boxing Day Pace goes in race 6 for a $2,500 purse and Im Hungry (Langille) will try to hit the Krown Rust Protection Winner’s Circle starting from post 9 for owners Chantel Langille and Schooner II Stable of Nova Scotia. Power Of Four (Desroche) and Uriel Blue Chip (David Dowling) are also top entries.

The afternoon builds toward the Preferred Pace in race 15 with a $5,100 purse on the line. Jk Last Chance draws the rail with trainer Kenny Arsenault in the seat for owner Daniel MacIsaac of Charlottetown. The eight-year-old son of So Surreal was a seven-time winner in 2025 and faces five heavyweights in his Friday bout. The Phil Sizer entry of Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) and Wind Blown (Corey MacPherson) leave from posts 2 and 3, respectively. TH Boomtown (Gilles Barrieau) holds down post 4 along with morning line favourite Merigo Magic (Adam Merner) from post 5 and post 6 entrant Howmac Maximus (Marc Campbell) trying to extend his streak to three.

The Post Time Picks like Merigo Magic.

“Merigo Magic has been racing great the past two weeks finishing second to Bee Two Bee both times. Slides out a spot on the wings and Merner won’t wait long so this could be the day he finds the win column.”

Post time is set for 12:30 P.M., Friday afternoon with a full slate of wagering options available on track and through HPIBet.com. For race programs, live video and more information visit Redshores.ca.
