Uriel Blue Chip Tries To Close Down Charlottetown

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The story of the 2025 racing season comes to a close in the race 14 finale Wednesday evening during New Year’s Eve at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First race post time is 6 P.M., for the 14-dash card.

Uriel Blue Chip is the morning line favourite from post 5 with Ken Murphy getting the driving assignment from trainer Jennifer Doyle for owner Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S. The five-year-old son of Bettors Delight was a hard closing second in his latest as he looks for the 10th win of his career.

Edge Of The World (To be driven by Brett Leblanc) has rail control after front stepping to a third-place finish in his latest.

JJ Patrick (Brady Sweet) has post 7 from the Ricky Armstrong Stable as the 7-2 third choice.

Other entries include Moonwriter (Driven by Marc Campbell) from post 2, Mac Anover (Jason Hughes) has post 3, St Charlesfireball (Adam Merner) from post 4, Marleys Boy (Myles Heffernan Jr.) with post 6 and Redwhiteandboots (Corey MacPherson) with the outside post 8.

Race 14 will also finalize the trainer’s and driver’s standings for the season with Marc Campbell about to put the finishing touches on his 16th straight driving title at Red Shores Charlottetown. The former O’Brien Award winner sits at 152 wins in 2025, currently sitting 10 wins shy of his CDP record of 162 wins set in 2017, and is about to set a new Atlantic Canada purse earnings record for drivers after setting the former record of $998,702 in 2024.

Gilles Barrieau sits second in the driver’s standings with 122 wins, with Corey MacPherson third with 105 victories. Adam Merner is fourth in the standings with 102 driving wins, making him just the eighth different individual to do it in the 136-year history of the historic city track.

The trainers’ standings are a more competitive affair, as Merner leads the way with 62 wins, but Landon Campbell (58 wins) and Jennifer Doyle (57 wins) are right on his heels, making every start down the stretch crucial. Ron Matheson and Ashley Gamester are tired for fourth with 50 wins in 2025.

The evening will also see the final starts for 14-year-old pacers Mighty Mouse and Well Did as they face mandatory retirement when they turn 15 on the standardized Standardbred Birthday of Jan. 1.

MIghty Mouse will compete in race 1 of the evening for owner-trainer Chris Covin of Nova Scotia. The daughter of Million Dollar Cam has win 44 races in her career along with $151,295 in purse earnings.

Well Did has post 3 in the Happy Retirement Pictonian Storm pace for trainer-driver Paul Langille and owner Well Did Stable of Lower Onslow, N.S. The Well Said pacer is a 63 time winner from 357 starts with $219,840 earned and goes to the gate in race 5.
