Tobins Brownie Controls Graduate Series Final Pylons

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a pair of narrow losses in the preliminary legs of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for pacing mares, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc., Tobins Brownie has the coveted rail position in the $13,000 Gold final Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 6 P.M., with the $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold final for four, five and six-year-old Maritime Foaled pacing mares lining up in race 12.

Tobins Brownie has drawn post 1 for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Brittany Dowling, Sandra Weeks and Erroll Burgoyne. The six-year-old Stonebridge Terror mare has won six races this season while finishing second in both Gold legs of the series on July 25 and Aug. 29.

Leg one winner Redlandbethanyjean (To be driven by Brodie MacPhee) will leave from post 4 for trainer Tom Weatherbie.

Rosetown Mary was the winner in leg two and gets the respect of Race Secretary Gerard Smith as the morning line favourite from post 2 for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson.

Also in the field are Plain Jane (Marc Campbell) with post 3, Rock N Roll Cays (Jason Hughes) from post 5 and Therealprincess (Mike Downey) with post 6.

The Post Time Picks place Tobins Brownie in the top spot.

“Tobins Brownie was storming on the end of it last week closing in a brisk 28.1 and just missing at the end. Moves to the rail and Dowling will be protecting the cones so expect her to be on or near the lead at the start and finish.”

Race 9 is the $9,750 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots final for aged pacing mares, also presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc.

Saulsbrook Abbey (Hughes) gets top billing from post 4 for trainer Saul Lanigan who co-owns with Peter and Mark Lanigan. Other top entries include Woodmere Clare (Clare MacDonald) from post 2 and post 3 starter Woodmere Heather M (Dowling).

Newly minted Red Shores Charlottetown track record holder Pasta Momma will put her nose on the starting gate in race 14 in a $3,700 overnight event. Campbell trains and drives the four-year-old daughter of Huntsville who set a new 1:52.2 standard for aged pacing mares on Aug. 22.

The program also featured a pair of $16,175 Brian Andrew Memorial two-year-old trot divisions with the fillies in race 2 and the rookie colts in race 6.
