CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a power move at the half-mile station, Sugar Bowl drew away from her foes in the Saturday afternoon Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,700 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace saw post 1 starter Redlandbethanyjean (Driven by Brodie MacPhee) guard the pylons at the start to put away all comers before Rosetown Mary (Corey MacPherson) popped the two-hole to take control at the 28.1 opening quarter. Race favourite Sugar Bowl (Gilles Barrieau) got away fourth and moved out past the quarter to rush up and take the lead at the 58.1 half-mile marker then cruise through fractions of 1:26.3 and 1:55.4 to win. Shake N Blake (David Dowling) was one-and-three-quarter lengths back in second ahead of Rosetown Mary in third. Jeff Holmes trains the winning daughter of Sweet Lou for owners Tommy Collings and Brian MacPhee of Mount Stewart.
Trainer Holmes also won the race 12 finale as Elroy Shiner (Paul Langille) went all the way in 1:58.1.
