You can always take a break from playing at Red Shores

A Break in Play can provide you with a short pause or a longer break to assess your gambling. Explore the available options to determine if taking a break is right for you.

Take a short-term break

A short-term break is an option if you want time away from gambling without committing to a longer timeframe. Decide on the length that works best for you, choose from 30, 60, or 90 days.

Take a long-term break

Sometimes you may decide you want extended time away, a long-term break may be right for you. A long-term break allows you to take time away from playing for 6, 12, 24 or 36 months.

What will happen:

  • If you would like to enroll in our Break in Play program, you can do so on-site at Red Shores Charlottetown and Summerside, or at an off-site location (i.e., Addiction Services). Please see a Red Shores staff member or call the PlayWise Advisors 902-620-4267 to learn more or to enroll.
  • To enroll, you will meet with two staff members in a private setting to walk you through the process. The entire meeting takes about 20 minutes.

What are my commitments while on a Break?

  • You will not be allowed access to Red Shores Gaming Floors in Charlottetown and Summerside until after your Break in Play period has ended and you have completed the Return to Play process.
  • The confirmed Break in Play cannot be cancelled or reversed.
  • Marketing communications will be disabled for the duration of your Break in Play.

What happens when my Break in Play ends?

When your Break in Play period ends, you have a few options to choose from.

    Option 1:

If you decide you do not want to Return to Play at Red Shores, you do not need to take any action and will continue to be on a Break in Play indefinitely.

    Option 2:

If you would like to extend your Break in Play, see a member of the PlayWise or Security team on-site at Red Shores Charlottetown or Summerside.

    Option 3:

If you feel returning to play is a healthy decision for you, you must first request to Return to Play.

    • See a member of the PlayWise or Security team on-site at Red Shores Charlottetown or Summerside; or call the PlayWise Advisors at 902- 620-4267 to fill out your request form.
    • Once your request has been submitted, your file will be reviewed to ensure you’re eligible to Return to Play.
    • Once you are approved, you will be contacted by a PlayWise Advisor to schedule a meeting to go through the Return to Play process.
    • Your Return to Play meeting will take place on-site at Red Shores Charlottetown or Summerside with a PlayWise Advisor and a Security Supervisor. Once all documentation is signed off, you will be able to enter the gaming floor following a 24-hour wait period*.

*If you registered in the Break in Play (previously Voluntary Self-Exclusion) program prior to February 2025, you will be required to adhere to the original agreement form which is a 30-day wait period. The PlayWise Advisor will confirm during your Return to Play meeting what your requirements are based on what agreement form was signed.
