CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Veteran pacer Twin B Tuffenuff was simply untouchable in the featured event Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Preferred 2 class, going for a $5,000 purse in race 12, saw Gilles Barrieau blast Twin B Tuffenuff ($2.30) to the front and roll through fractions of 28.2, 56.4 and 1:26.0 before sprinting home in 28 seconds flat to win by three-open-lengths in 1:54. Ron Matheson trains the winning pacer for owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown.
One Eight Hundred (Driven by Mike Downey) rallied for second with Tradition (Adam Merner) finishing third following a rail-skimming journey.
The card featured a driving triple for Barrieau, who also won with J K Express ($3.40) in race 1 for trainer Jared Perrot, and Jack Boswall ($5.40) in race 7 for trainer Keith MacDonell.
Adam Merner also had a standout night with a driving triple and a training double. He orchestrated a major upset in race 5 with Raised On Blacktop ($28.10) for trainer Earl Watts, then captured race 8 with Shanes Dream ($13.90) in 1:57.2 and race 11 with Well Said Celeb ($4.20) in 1:56.1 — both from his own stable.
Live harness racing continues Monday afternoon on Prince Edward Island for the season opener at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on a special Victoria Day card starting at 1 P.M.
