CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Sugar Bowl takes top billing in the Race 13 featured Fillies and Mares tilt on Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $4,350 event for pacing fillies and mares has a well-matched field of six lining up in the late stages of the 14-dash program, with first race post time at 6 P.M. for the card.
Sugar Bowl headlines the feature from post 5 for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Brian MacPhee and Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart. The Sweet Lou sired pacer was a winner in three of five starts so far this season while never finishing worse than third.
Tobins Brownie (To be driven by Marc Campbell) has the outside post 6 from the Adam Merner barn while stablemate Ms Moyse (Merner) gets post 3.
The Jennifer Doyle stable has two entries with Elm Grove Mistress (David Dowling) from post 2 and Shake N Blake (Ken Murphy) from post 4.
Rosetown Mary sits the pylons at the start for trainer-driver Corey MacPherson, with the Pang Shui mare riding a pair of second-place finishes into the event.
The Post Time Picks go with Rosetown Mary to win.
“Rosetown Mary was absolutely storming on the end of it last out and just missed by the slimmest of margins. It was still a top-notch effort, and MacPherson will be protecting the cones so she could get all the marbles this time.”
The third leg of the All Star Cresting Trot Series goes postward in Race 6 for a $7,000 pot, and Bless Me Father will try to complete a clean sweep of the series.
Marc Campbell drives the Father Patrick gelding from post 2 for owner-trainer Donna Van Meer of Mount Herbert. A dominant winner in legs one and two, he aims for the series hat trick on Thursday night.
Oceanview Nikki is installed as the 3-1 second choice from post 1 with Michael McGuigan in the bike from his own barn while stablemate Supreme Rockette (Barrieau) is a top choice from post 5.
The top trot hits the track in race 11 with a competitive field featuring Jessiejesorjessica (Murphy), Rocket Blast (MacPherson), New Legacy (Dowling), Fight Song (Jason Hughes) and Legacys Jailbreak (Barrieau). The $4,000 dash has Fight Song installed as the favourite after finishing second in the Open last week.
The Hunter River Lions Club pace is in Race 5 with a field of nine sophomore pacing fillies chasing a $3,350 pot.
Isle Bea Wickedwon (Barrieau) is the favourite as she looks to stay undefeated in 2025 in her fourth start of the season for owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B., and trainer Ron Matheson.
