High Voltage Deo Shocks Preferred Foes At Red Shores

By Nicholas Oakes for Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Longshot High Voltage Deo had to rally from the back but left his Preferred foes in the dust in a sizzling 1:51.4 mile as he upset the top class Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The $5,500 Preferred 1 pace headlined the 15-dash program and saw driver Corey MacPherson engineer a perfect brush on the outside to take command past three-quarters with High Voltage Deo ($39.30), who fired home in 27.4 to secure the victory by over three-lengths for trainer Brendan Curran and owners Alby Curran and the High Voltage Deo Group. The Sweet Lou five-year-old finished ahead of second-place Twin B Tuffenuff (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) with All Bets On Tex (Adam Merner) completing the triactor.

Odds-on choice Odds On Capitalism (Marc Campbell) cut the fractions of 27 and 55 but gave way to High Voltage Deo at three-quarters of 1:24 before fading to finish sixth.

Driver Adam Merner had a triple on the program with Pendleton Rodeo ($6.20) powering up in the final quarter to win race 15 in 1:54.4 from his own barn while Tradition ($4.50) got up by a head to nab race 12 in 1:55.3 for trainer Gordie Hennessey and Shadows Terror ($2.80) was a 1:54.2 winner in race 7 from the Lenny Myers outfit.

Trainer-driver Paul Langille also doubled up, with Nolans Magic Shui ($2.80) commanding from the start in race 13 to win in 1:57.1, joining Malignity ($2.10) who hit the winner’s circle in race 5 in a lifetime best of 1:52.3.

The Trevor Hicken stable sent out a pair of winners as Tony Too Tall ($8.80) won race 8 in 1:53.3 for driver Myles Heffernan Jr., then Sonny Black ($12.60) won race 11 in 1:54.4 with Myles Heffernan Sr., at the lines.

Racing continues Tuesday afternoon for a special Canada Day Program at Red Shores Summerside. For replays, programs, and upcoming events, visit Redshores.ca.
