SUMMERSIDE, PE – Brookdale Johnny found his way up late to nail his rivals in the Tuesday evening feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The $5,000 Preferred 2 pace in race 12 went the way of Brookdale Johnny ($4.60) as the five-year-old Rockin In Heaven gelding powered up to win in 1:54.3.
Brady Sweet handled the driving duties of Brookdale Johnny for trainer Phil Sizer and owners Doug Polley Jr., and Doug Polley Sr., of Amherst, N.S. Brookdale Johnny sat off the early speed in fifth before sweeping up to control past three-quarters and widen to a three-length score.
Sauble Attack (Driven by Ken Murphy) was the runner-up while favoured Howmac Charmer (Corey MacPherson) had to settle for third.
Milo, P.E.I., native Ryan Desroche was the popular face in the winner’s circle as he scored a driving triple on the 13-dash card. Desroche teamed up as the first part of a double for trainer Sizer and owners The Polley family of Amherst, N.S., as race 3 went to favourite Brookdale Shelley ($2.70), who cut it out in 2:00.2. Race 2 was also a Desroche victory with the Greg MacInnis trained Arthur Idlam ($6.70) wiring the field in 1:57.3. In the 11th race, Elm Grove Penney ($4.80) returned to the top for driver Desroche and trainer Luke Burke, winning in 1:58.3.
