SUMMERSIDE, PE – The Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies headlines the Friday card at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway, as part of Governor’s Plate Week Harness Racing.
The 11-dash Friday card has a 6 P.M., opening post time with a pair of rich $18,080 “A” divisions in races 5 and 9.
Race 5 kicks off the Atlantic Sires Stakes action with a contentious field of eight fillies.
Starship Laska headlines the field from post 1 with Marc Campbell at the controls for trainer Earl Watts and owners Windemere Farms, Beryl McNeill, Sterling Buchanan and Jack Quinn. The daughter of Arthur Blue Chip has been razor sharp with five top-threes from seven career starts, including a 1:57 front-end score in her latest.
The morning line second choice is Mia from post 5 for trainer-driver Adam Merner. The Malicious filly comes off a sparkling 1:56.3 mile in her latest. Third choice is Woodmere Betcha from post 8 with Mike McGuigan in the seat for trainer Jamie Smith after finishing third in the Stanfield Memorial her last start.
The other $18,080 A-division for sophomore pacing fillies in race 9 is headlined by Badgirl Bridgette with a three-race win streak on the line from post 3. Jason Hughes drives for owner-trainer Bill Lanigan of Montague. The Stonebridge Terror filly is a nine-time winner from 11 lifetime starts.
Lady Llamrei and trainer-driver Merner loom the danger from post 2 after a 1:54.2 win in her last start. Elm Grove Talia (To be driven by David Dowling) is a major threat with rail control along with post 4 starter Woodmere Flojo (Corey MacPherson).
The program also has $6,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes B-divisions in races 2, 3 and 6 as well as the Bud Ramsay Memorial Pace in race 7.
