CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Bee Two Bee rode the two-hole to perfection in the featured event on a rescheduled Monday evening card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Jason Hughes was in command of the Ashley Gamester trainee for owners Donald MacRae and Blair MacLauchlan as Bee Two Bee got sat second behind pacesetter Roll Em (Driven by Marc Campbell) in the $4,200 Preferred Pace and got up in the stretch drive to win in 1:55.4. The track was rated two-seconds off due to constant rainstorms recently on Prince Edward Island. High Voltage Deo (Corey MacPherson) was second best ahead of Roll Em.
Hughes scored a quadruple on the evening as he opened up the card winning with Roll Your Coin (2:03.4) for trainer Stephen Quinn, then snagged victory in race 8 aboard Elm Grove Mistress (2:00.3) for Jennifer Doyle for the Articulator mare’s third straight win. Shadows Terror (2:02.2) won his third straight, this time for new trainer Lenny Myers, to give Hughes his fourth win of the evening.
Trainer Doyle continues her steady march towards Atlantic Canadian Harness racing history with three wins on the program to chase down Lynn Privett’s Atlantic Canadian record of 107 wins in a season by a female trainer. Doyle now sits at 101 wins in 2024 after additional Monday evening victories with Shake N Blake (1:57.4) in the Fillies and Mares Preferred and Woodmere Kennedie (1:59.2) for her third straight win, both driven by David Dowling. Marc Campbell holds the overall dash win record by a trainer after his 131 win season in 2017 unseating former leader Blair Laffin, who won 111 races in 1994 with Privett’s performance in third.
Ron Matheson had a training double Monday with Sunseeker (2:00.2) in line to MacPherson and TH Boomtown (1:56.2) with Gilles Barrieau in the seat.
Live racing continues Saturday afternoon at 12:30 P.M., at Red Shores Charlottetown.
