CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The most electrifying week in Canadian harness racing is fast approaching, and the stage is about to be set once again for the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer: Prince Edward Island’s crown jewel of the sport and one of the most prestigious events in North America.
With a $100,000 purse on the line and an atmosphere unlike any other in harness racing, Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park is calling on trainers and owners across North America to bring their best to the East Coast. Red Shores will close the entry box on August 4 at 3 P.M. (Atlantic Standard Time) for Gold Cup and Saucer Trials on Saturday August 9. All trials will be held on August 9 this year in preparation for the climax of Old Home Week 2025: the Gold Cup and Saucer final on Saturday August 16.
The Gold Cup and Saucer offers full hospitality for connections and the chance to etch your horse’s name in Canadian harness racing history. Owners entering the Gold Cup and Saucer Trials will receive a welcome package and all horses entering will earn three points towards the $50,000 Premier’s Cup Final in October. Warren Ellis and Family with Summerside Chrysler Dodge will again sponsor the $10,000 Smash The Track Record promotion as the 1:50.1 track record co-held by Sintra, Bee Two Bee and Ys Lotus is within sight. Horses finishing 6 through 8 will receive a $1,000 participation bonus.
“Celebrating its 66th edition in 2025, the Gold Cup and Saucer is more than a race it’s a moment,” says Lee Drake, Red Shores manager of Racing, Marketing & Sales. “Set under the spotlight lights during Old Home Week with tens of thousands of fans in attendance, the event has become a true summer highlight and a career-defining victory for any horse that captures it. From legendary upsets to wire-to-wire domination, the Gold Cup and Saucer has built a legacy rooted in spirit and the kind of crowd energy you simply won’t find anywhere else.”
Trainers and owners are encouraged to consider Charlottetown as a summer destination and race under the lights where tradition meets talent. Previous winners include some of the finest pacers ever to grace Atlantic Canadian soil, and the 2025 edition promises to be another unforgettable chapter.
