By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – One of the top mares in the region will look to add to their resume Thursday evening in the Kent Oakes Memorial at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $4,200 feature in Race 11 honours the legacy of Kent Oakes, a lifelong supporter of Island and Canadian harness racing and an individual honoured with two of the Sport’s greatest awards in the Cam Fella Award and to be inducted into the Canadian Horse Facing Hall Of Fame. The new racing surface at the Charlottetown Driving Park opened 20 years ago on June 4, 2005 with a team of dedicated individuals committed to revitalizing the industry, with Oakes an integral part of that group. His memory lives on through the many people and horses he helped along the way.
Rail control in Thursday’s event is Galway Girl, who gets post 1 for trainer Landon Campbell and owners Kent MacDonald, Bernard MacDonald and Jacinta Campbell. A former stakes performer, the daughter of Shanghai Phil has landed back in top form this spring winning in 1:57 her last start. Marc Campbell will handle the lines.
Elm Grove Mistress leaves from post 2 with David Dowling back in the seat for trainer Jennifer Doyle
From post 3, Rosetown Mary has Corey MacPherson in the sulky. She was a winner in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series in a Gold division with a 1:58.3 victory her last start.
Sugar Bowl has post 4 for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jeff Holmes.
Tobins Brownie completes the field from post 5, a multiple stakes winner returning to action for trainer-driver Adam Merner.
