CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Hatchling delivered a mild upset in the Gary Smith Memorial Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Hatching ($17.50) sat second in the Gary Smith Memorial in race 1 of the night and overtook pacesetter Cant Catch Pepper (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) in 1:57.1. Marc Campbell supplied the winning steer for trainer Landon Campbell and owners Michael Goldberg and Shirley Symes.
Race 4 had Supreme Rockette ($5.20) win the Drew Power Memorial Trot in a 1:58.2 mile from the Mike McGuigan stable for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale. Gilles Barrieau was in the race bike as the three-year-old trot filly defeated second-place Curadh (Ryan Desroche) and Oceanview Daisy (Myles Heffernan Sr.).
The Enid Morrison Memorial in race 5 had Sagali ($6.40), in line to Corey MacPherson, land on top with a 1:57 clocking for trainer Phil Kelly and owner The Sagali Six Stable of Charlottetown. Skip Across (Jason Hughes) secured second over Ubettimagoodone (Jaycob Sweet).
Havinfuninthesun ($2.50) was the best in the Benevolent Irish Society 200th Anniversary Pace in race 6. Myles Hefffernan Sr., was in the race bike behind the Thane Arsenault trainee as she stopped the clock in 1:58 for owners Thane and Jack Arsenault, Barry MacLeod and Deborah Wilson. Heatherspet (MacPherson) went up the passing lane but had to settle for second as Smiilin In Heaven (Gary Chappell) was third.
The Doane Grant Thornton Pace in race 8 went to Woodmere Lizzie ($51.20) in a massive upset for driver MacPherson, trainer David O’Brien and owners Jack MacGillivray and Jackie Cooper. Obsessed With Lou (Marc Campbell) finished second as Islebetu Islebeatu (David Dowling) completed the $403.30 triactor ticket. Time of the mile was 1:56 flat.
Race 9 had Havarti ($13.20) and trainer-driver Paul Langille best Psili Ammos (Kenny Arsenault) in 1:56.2 in the Keith Duke MacCallum Memorial as race favourite Shake N Blake (Dowling) was third. Chantel Langille owns the winning mare.
Redlandmisspretty ($11.10) took a new lifetime mark in the race 11 featured Fillies and Mares Pace with a 1:53.3 clocking for driver Langille and trainer Kyle Williams. Talldarklatte (Barrieau) was second ahead of Tribal Dancer (MacPherson) as part of a $486.40 triactor. The winning mare is owned by Brian MacGregor, Rebecca Blaisdell and Howard Anderson.
MacPherson tripled on the evening as a driver.
