House Edge Hanover Headlines Charlottetown

By Nicholas Oakes for Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Five pacers line up in Saturday’s featured Race 11 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, with House Edge Hanover set to bring the winning momentum from post 5.

First post time is 6 P.M. for the 12-dash program, which also features the Milene Carr Memorial in Race 5 and the Kenmac Energy Pace in race 7.

The race 11 top class carries a $4,300 purse with five rivals in the evenly matched field.

House Edge Hanover (To be driven by Gilles Barrieau) has post 5 and lands top billing in the Saturday night feature from the Ron Matheson barn for owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B. The Betting Line four-year-old was a 1:53.1 winner off the front in his latest try and was a winner off-the-pace on June 14 at Connell Park in Woodstock, N.B., three starts back.

Avatar J (Jason Hughes) has been hot this season for trainer Darren Smith as the 11-year-old has a win and three seconds from four starts including a 1:52.2 scorcher on June 21. He has post 4 Saturday.

Sonny Black (Myles Heffernan Sr.) has rail control after a third-place finish in 1:54.3 in his latest for trainer Trevor Hicken.

Post 2 belongs to Early Play (Brady Sweet) from the Jeff Holmes barn. The five-year-old Shadow Play pacer has hit the board every start since relocating to P.E.I.

Tradition (Adam Merner) gets post 3 for conditioner Gordie Hennessey. The Always B Miki seven-year-old was a winner in 1:55.3 on June 28.

The Post Time Picks take House Edge Hanover on top.

“House Edge Hanover was a winner from off-the-pace in Woodstock three starts back and a front-end winner here last time out in a new personal best time of 1:53.1. His versatility should come in handy from post five in this five-horse field, so I’m giving him the edge in this contest.”

The race 5 Milene Carr Memorial has Friar Voltaire (Sweet) favoured off the rail for co-owner and trainer Basil Hunter and co-owners Eric and Luke Mutch and Doug Molyneaux. The All Bets Off five-year-old was a runner-up in his Island debut in 1:56 and change. His main challengers include Rosiesmightmmoe (Barrieau) and Gascoigne AC (Marc Campbell).

The Kenmac Energy Pace is in race 7 with Spack Jarrow the top selection from the Raymond White barn as he searches for his first win of the campaign. Corey MacPherson drives for owner Mike Slana.
