Miki Shan N Favoured in Red Shores Summerside Feature

By Nicholas Oakes for Red Shores

SUMMERSIDE, PE – A proven class act from New Zealand headlines the feature Tuesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as Miki Shan N looks to assert himself in his local debut.

The $4,600 feature goes behind the gate in Race 13 on the 14-dash program, with Miki Shan N drawing post 4 for trainer Chris MacKay and catch-driver Gary Chappell. The son of Always B Miki had been racing in the U.S. for owners Kap Singh Racing Stable of New York and Stephen Klunowski of Ontario. He was a fifth-place finisher in the $138,889 Borgata Series consolation at Yonkers in May.

Braxtons Boy (To be driven by Brady Sweet) was a bang-up second to Mr Kelly in last week’s feature from the Rick Armstrong stable. The five-year-old son of Whosurboy is winless so far in 2025 but has had six runner-up finishes.

Mr Kelly has post 3 for trainer-driver Adam Merner after wiring this class last week in 1:56 flat.

The Backstretch Beat goes with the Kiwi, Miki Shan A to land on top.
“Mick Shan N joins the Chris MacKay barn after campaigning in the United States and racing some of the best half-mile horses on the planet. Was competitive in the Borgata series so he should be the best in this group tonight if he brings his “A” Game. This gelding looks like the type to make an immediate impact on the local scene.”

Also in the feature are One Eight Hundred (Mike Downey) and Howmac Charmer (Corey MacPherson).

The curtain rises on the program with a group of pacing colts and geldings in a $3,350 test in race 1 as Tobins Storm looks for his third-straight from the Bruce McGean barn with Paul Langille in the seat. The Three-year-old son of Stag Party was a 1:56 and change winner his last two races at his home base of the Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia for owner Tobins Storm Stable Group.

The George Rennison trained Saulsbrook Bolt (Brady Sweet) has post 1 after winning last week in 1:57.4 at Red Shores Summerside. Other top entries include Wizard (Merner) for trainer Alan MacDonald and Timberlea Duke (Murphy) from the Joe Baxter barn.

The finale is a $2,800 non-winners tilt with numerous angles, but all eyes will be on Hunger Pangs from the far outside and Max Patrick, fresh off a trip in 1:55 flat in Charlottetown.

Hunger Pangs (MacPherson) was an open-length winner last week from the Blaine McKenna barn and has drawn post 7 to close out the card in race 14 for owner Susanna MacKeigan of Nova Scotia. The Allan Gregory trained Max Patrick (Myles Heffernan Sr.) is a major threat from post 5 along with rail sitter Howmac Powerball (Brady Sweet) from the Rennison stable.
