SUMMERSIDE, PE – The reigning Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Champion and the fastest sophomore trot filly of 2024 went toe-to-toe in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action Monday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with Oceanview Daisy landing on top.
Fresh off a track record at Truro Raceway her last start, Myles Heffernan Sr., sent the daughter of EL Rocket to the front in her $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trot filly division and slammed out splits of 29.2, 59 and 1:28.4 with a pesky Dusty Lane Wee (Driven by Marc Campbell) on his back. The 2023 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Champion came out of the two-hole in the final quarter but could not loop the front stepping Oceanview Daisy as they hit the wire in 2:00. Myles Heffernan Jr., trains the winning Oceanview Daisy for owners Jackie Heffernan and Barry MacLeod.
Gettin Lit was a winner in a $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trot colt division by 20-lengths in 2:00.4 for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale.
Rocket Blast won the other $13,000 three-year-old trot colt split in 2:01.1 for driver Corey MacPherson and owner-trainer Carl Bagnall.
Oceanview Nikki remains undefeated in her career as trainer-driver McGuigan scored a one-length victory in the lone $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot filly division in 2:02.3 over stablemate Supreme Rockette (MacPherson). The winning filly is owned by Blue Diamond Racing and Josh MacDonald.
The first $13,000 two-year-old trot colt division had Mile Hill Waylon (Gilles Barrieau) open up at the start and trot to an 18-length romp in 2:07.1 for trainer Paul Morrison and owners John and Barbara Breau of Shediac Cape, N.B.
The second $13,000 two-year-old trot colt P.E.I. Colt Stakes race had a solid recovery from West River Jet (Ken MacDonald) as they came back from an early break to win in 2:05.3 over Fire The Rocket (Jason Hughes). Clare MacDonald trains West River Jet for owner Haley MacDonald of Stratford.
Driver Marc Campbell tripled up on the evening as he won with Jazzville (1:58.1) in race 3 for trainer Blaine McKenna and with the Landon Campbell trained duo of The Lady Sheriff (1:56.4) in race 8 and Macho Phil (1:57.3) in the race 12 finale.
Live racing continues Thursday evening with a return to Red Shores Charlottetown kicking off at 6 P.M. featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for four, five and six-year-old mares presented by JD Marine & Diving. The Fox Group Racing event will also highlight the card.
