Pacers Clash In Graduate Gold At Summerside

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

SUMMERSIDE, PE – The P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for aged pacing horses, presented by Kay’s Wholesale, comes to its 2025 conclusion Tuesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval has a 16-dash program scheduled with a 6 P.M. post time featuring the $16,000 Gold final, the $10,400 Grassroots final and a $6,000 Grassroots consolation of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series.

Saulsbrook Ian (To be driven by Adam Merner) will try to add to his already sparkling career from post 3 in the $16,000 Gold final in race 13. The Betterthancheddar five-year-old gelding last raced in the $30,000 James (Roach) MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer consolation for trainer Jamie Smith and owners Red Oak Rock Stables of Charlottetown. The Nova Scotia bred pacer is an 18-time winner lifetime.

Howmac Charmer has rail control in the compact field of five for trainer Kyle Williams and driver Corey MacPherson. The Malicious five-year-old has four wins this year, including a sizzling 1:53.3 performance over Summerside.

Malignity (Paul Langille) has been a steady stakes force throughout his career, lining up from post 5 on Tuesday evening.

Brookdale Johnny (David Dowling) is fresh off a win in 1:54.3 last time in Summerside for trainer Phil Sizer while Little Leroy (Ken Murphy) completes the Gold field leaving from post 2 for trainer Joseph Baxter.

The Backstretch Beat sides with Saulsbrook Ian.
“Saulsbrook Ian has proven himself against the deepest company in the division, and his Gold Cup & Saucer consolation speed will be tough to match if he can control things early. The class edge is his greatest weapon here.”

The Grassroots Final in race 10 carries a $10,400 purse as Jack Boswall (Dowling) is favoured from post 1 after a 1:54.3 Summerside score for trainer Keith MacDonell. Allaboutthecash (Brady Sweet) has been razor sharp for Jeff Holmes and lands post 3, while Good Omen (Paul Langille) ships in off a pair of seconds in his latest tries.

The Grassroots Consolation goes for $6,000 in race 7 with Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) favoured from post 2 with four wins so far this season. Woodmere Sinatra (Dowling) looms the danger from the rail while Gascoigne A C (Langille) has the speed and consistency to land on the ticket from post 5.

The program also features a $4,700 featured overnight pace in race 15 with Redland Misspretty (Langille), Mantario (Dowling), Starship Glyde (Merner), Rose Run X Con (MacPherson) and Sauble Attack (Murphy).
