CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Mowing down her foes in the final stanza, Redlandbethanyjean was victorious in the first leg of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc., on Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Brodie MacPhee piloted the Tom Weatherbie trainee to victory in the lone $5,500 Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for four, five and six-year-old mares, stopping the clock in 1:56.1 over Tobins Brownie (Driven by David Dowling) and Rosetown Mary (Corey MacPherson). The four-year-old daughter of Artspeak is owned by Redland Farms of Bible Hill, N.S.
The evening also featured $4,300 Grassroots divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduates Series for mares with Woodmere Heather M (Dowling) winning her eighth straight for trainer Jennifer Doyle, this time in 1:56.
The other division was won by Saulsbrook Abbey from the Saul Lanigan barn in 1:57.2 as part of a four-win performance by driver Jason Hughes.
Hughes’ other wins came with Glider Man (2:00.4) for trainer Doyle, then the pair hooked up later on to win the Island Oceans Trot Challenge division, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables, with New Legacy in 1:58 for the Doyle training triple.
Hughes also won with Acefortyfourdome (1:55.2) for trainer Ashley Gamester.
Dowling visited the winner’s circle two more times from his own barn for the driving triple as Arts Beach went down the road in 1:56.2 for an 11-length romp in The Fox Group Racing Event pace and Elm Grove Redwine closed out the card in 1:57 in race 14.
Driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson doubled up winning with Topville Angelina (1:57.1) and Iditrod (2:02.1).
Live racing continues Saturday at 4 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for Horse and Geldings, presented by Kays Wholesale, during Harness The Hope night.
