SUMMERSIDE, PE – Getting up in the final strides in the Sunday afternoon feature, Rose Run X Con gave former dash title winner Norris Rogers a milestone moment at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The $5,000 Sunday afternoon feature had heavily All Bets On Tex (Driven by Adam Merner) go to the lead in 26.4 then trip the half in 55.2. Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) then comes first-over with eventual winner Rose Run X Con ($18.60) coming second-over at the three-quarters in 1:25.1. Rose Run X Con then fanned wide to mow down his rivals in 1:55.1 to give Summerside boy Norris Rogers the 1,000th win of his driving career. Second was Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) with Brookdale Johnny third.
Nicholas Oakes trains the winning son of McArdle for owner JD Racing Inc., of Cornwall.
Rogers, who won the driving title five times in the late 90’s, scored win 999 earlier in the day with Baby Step Back ($2.60) for trainer Ricky Amrstrong in 1:57.1.
Jaycob Sweet had a double as a trainer-driver aboard Hawkish Deo ($10.80) in 1:58.1 and Freemans Legacy ($27.20) in 1:57.
Brady Sweet tripled on the day with Princess Halo ($2.70) in 1:57.4 and Nofool Tobago ($5.00) in 1:59, both for trainer Garth Cole, and Silver Spirit ($8.90) in 1:56.3 for trainer Tammy Collings.
Ken Murphy also scored three wins with Sourpuss Sarah ($8.90) from the Ryan Doucette barn in a 2:02.3 clocking, Mattnificent Rose ($6.50) in 2:00.2 from the Joe Baxter barn and Woodmere Ideal Art ($3.90) for trainer Sifroi Melanson in 1:56.3.
