CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The rookie pacing colts will be front and centre Thursday evening during Old Home Week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as the Atlantic Sires Stakes rolls into town.
The 13-dash presentation starts at 6 P.M. and features $11,460 A-divisions and $6,000 B-divisions for the Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old pacing colts.
The final $11,460 A-division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes is in race 10 and will see an undefeated stakes winner in Sporty Anthony as the 5-2 favourite from post 3 for driver Ken Murphy and co-owner Jason Williams along with co-owner and trainer Jason Biggar of Miscouche. The Somewhere Fancy–Southwind Ion colt will face off with Tobins Gem (To be driven by Marc Campbell) from post 4 and Louie The Lip (Brodie MacPhee) in the competitive dash.
Race 3 has the first $11,460 A-division with Woodmere Mahomes favoured at 5-2 for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and owner Daniel Ross of Vernon Bridge. The son of Tobago Cays makes the first start of his career from post 3 and will look to fend off the challenges of Tiziano (Clare MacDonald) from post 1, Rollwiththewarden (Corey MacPherson) with post 6 and Oceanview Lou (Brodie MacPhee) from post 4.
Race 6 features another $11,460 A-division where Den Of Thieves will look for his third straight for trainer-driver Adam Merner and owners Christa Murphy, Herman McQuaid and Brittany Watts. Zero Two Sixty (Barrieau) is a top contender from post 3 along with Fire And Blood (Mike Downey) with post 2.
The B-stakes action kicks off in race 1 with a $6,000 dash for two-year-old pacing colts, with more splits in races 5, 7 and 11.
Race 2 is the Joey & Dee Arsenault Memorial, with the Andy Judson Memorial in race 4, while the Apps & Etta Arsenault Memorial slated for race 8 and the Wilbur & Eileen Doyle Memorial is in race 9.
A staple of Old Home Week, the Joe & Wal Hennessey Memorial is in race 12 for $4,000 and the Jeff May Memorial lines up in race 13 for $2,900 to close out the card.
