SUMMERSIDE, PE – Supreme Rockette trotted into the history books in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action on Tuesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Gilles Barrieau drove Supreme Rockette ($4.90) in her $19,310 P.E.I. Colt Stakes division for three-year-old trotting fillies as she overtook leader Majian Mystery (Driven by Jim Ripley) at the 29.2 opening quarter to strike the lead. The front was short lived for Supreme Rockette as fellow Mike McGuigan trainee Oceanview Nikki (McGuigan) came first-over to take over at the 58.4 half-mile marker. Three-quarters were reached in 1:29 before the daughters of EL Rocket battled in the stretch drive with Supreme Rockette winning by a neck in a new track record of 1:58.3. Jamie Whalen of Avondale bred and owns the filly. She erased the former three-year-old filly track trotting record of 1:59.3 held by Defriended.
Hallysgurl ($2.10) won the $18,980 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot filly division with Barrieau in the seat for trainer Darryl MacLean and owners Calvin Larkin and Erika Bradley. The Muscle Mass filly lead through every call of 30.3, 1:02.1, 1:33.1 and 2:03.1. Dusty Lane Margo (Jason Hughes) was second with Bonmati (Marc Campbell) third.
Bless Me Father ($2.30) was the best in his $19,310 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trotting colt assignment with a 1:58.2 win for owner-trainer Donna Van Meer. West River Jet (Ken MacDonald) was second best with Dusty Lane Gus (Ryan Desroche) completing the triactor.
Corey MacPherson steered Little Louis ($3.30) to victory in the $18,980 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old colt trot, winning by five-lengths in 2:02.2 over Big Rig (McGuigan) and West River Karuna (MacDonald). East Coast Captains of Cornwall own the homebred filly with Kuri White assigned the training duties.
Barrieau and Marc Campbell both had four driving wins on the Tuesday program.
Live racing continues Wednesday evening at 6 P.M., at Red Shores Summerside, featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts.
