CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After tasting defeat in his first start of the season at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, Twin B Tuffenuff was redemption bound in the Saturday evening Preferred Pace.
Driver Gilles Barrieau put the son of Rock N Roll Heaven on the point and cruised to a 1:52.4 victory in the $3,800 Preferred Pace. Blood Money (Driven by Marc Campbell) was second with Spectrum Seelster (David Dowling) third. Ron Matheson trains Twin B Tuffenuff for owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown.
Merigo Magic put in an incredible performance in race 6 as the three-year-old son of Tobago Cays circled the field to win in 1:55.3 against aged competition. Adam Merner was in the driver’s seat for trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. The colt is now heading for the first stake of the season, the P.E.I. Colt Stakes on May 26 at Red Shores Summerside. Merner and Rennie also teamed up to win race 3 with Impeccable Shadow in 1:55.
Keith Ford doubled up as a trainer-driver winning race 4 with Justcallmedoc in 1:59.4 and race 7 with Moonwriter in 1:57.
Hippyjohn closed out the card in race 11 to win at 17-1 odds in 1:56.4 for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault and owner Roderick Smith of Inverness, N.S.
