CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – In a race decided by inches, the Tom Weatherbiee stable delivered a one-two punch in the Saturday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,500 top event saw the Weatherbie trained Island Beach Boy (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) guard the rail and set up shop on the front end with fractions of 28.3, 58 and 1:26.3. Stablemate Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee) sat second and pounced in the stretch to prevail in a nose decision over second-place Island Beach Boy with Impeccable Shadow (Adam Merner) finishing third. Fern Hill General is owned by Peter Smith of Stratford and Gerald Morrissey of Charlottetown.
Driver MacPhee and trained Weatherbie scored earlier on the card as Shanes Dream had a maiden breaking score of 1:59.1 in race 3.
Driver Brady Sweet and trainer Jeff Holmes teamed up for a pair of wins with Elroy Shiner (1:59.2) in race 9 and Imalookertoo (1:56.2) in race 6.
Howmac Powerball provided the upset of the night as driver Corey MacPherson guided him to a 1:59 win at 17-1 odds for a $983.10 triactor ticket. JD Racing Inc., of Cornwall share ownership of the winning son of Pang Shui with Atlantic Racing Power Grp of Warren Grove and Stewart MacDonald of Charlottetown.
