The Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer
Each August RED SHORES at Charlottetown Driving Park is the home of one of the major entertainment attractions in Canada – the Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer. The fastest horses and the best drivers in all of Eastern Canada converge at the RED SHORES for 15 racing programs in 9 days. The Gold Cup & Saucer dates back to the early 1960’s and has become known as one of the most prestigious races in harness racing.
Join us this year on beautiful Prince Edward Island as we will celebrate the 59th running of The Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer. Make plans to be here and watch history be made as the horses and their drivers walk past the spectators as the Island hymn is played to a packed house. The lights go out and the horses and their drivers are introduced to the thousands of fans one by one under the spotlight as they make their way in front of the grandstand. At two minutes
to midnight, the famous call to the post is heard and the horses and drivers get ready to compete in one of the best shows in racing: The Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer!

Old Home Week is PEI’s Family Fun Fair! Since 1888, Islanders and visitors have been celebrating the Island with special events such as 14 live race cards in just 10 days, live entertainment for the whole family, livestock and agricultural shows and an fun-packed midway! 2018 Gold Cup Ambassadors
Sobeys Invitational and the Atlantic Canada Invitational Presented by Sobeys
Sobeys will sponsor two new special Old Home Week races, kicking off on Saturday, August 11th with the Sobeys Invitational, and culminating on August 18th with the Atlantic Canada Invitational presented by Sobeys.
Harness Racing Karaoke Star
Harness Racing Karaoke Star is back at Red Shores for another year! This is an opportunity for Owners, Trainers, Drivers, and Grooms to showcase their singing abilities. Contestants will perform pre-selected songs for a chance to win cash prizes. Harness Racing Karaoke Star takes place on Thursday August 16th at the Eastlink Centre. Doors open at 10:30pm and the competition begins at 11pm.
Anthony and Amy Macdonald – co-founders of The Stable, a fractional ownership company, will be doing a special promotion with their Guardian Gold Cup & Saucer starter LincolnJames.
The Stable.ca will offer 15 shares on this Gold Cup starter. Investors can go to http://thestable.ca/ and click on the LincolnJames promotion banner to be entered to win their chance to purchase a share. Each share can be purchased for $901 dollars (CDN). The 15 investors will be drawn by August 14th and must purchase their share prior to the official draw of the race Tuesday, August 14th. Go to http://thestable.ca/ for more details.
The Monctonian Pace
In 2018 PEI Harness Racing will recognize the history and horse people associated with Moncton, New Brunswick. On Thursday, August 16th, from 4 to 6pm, a Moncton reunion will be held in the Eastlink Trade Centre, just off the Red Shores Main Lobby, followed that evening by a very special event “The Monctonian Pace” sponsored by the horse owners of the Moncton area, City of Moncton, David Lund and family, Dr. M.L. Patriquin, and Moncton Standardbred Racing Association.
Throughout it’s nearly six decades of activity, and name changes from Moncton Raceway to Brunswick Downs and then Champlain Raceway, the Moncton track was known for record setting performances and the highest special event purses in the region. All those associated with the Moncton track over the years are invited to attend the reunion, bring along any materials they may wish to share, and celebrate memories.
On Wednesday, August 15th, Red Shores will celebrate the race and breeding career of the sensational Somebeachsomewhere. At that evenings race card, trophies, photos, and other Beach memorabilia will be on display for all race fans to enjoy, courtesy of co-owner Reg Pettipas and his wife Louise. In addition, select race videos from Somebeachsomewhere’s record breaking performances will be broadcast. Post time is 7pm.
On Track Promotions
The official ballot is in your race program, or located at the seller’s stations. You must pick the winners of races 6 thru 10. If you pick the winning horses, you’ll keep your winning plus you get a $500 jackpot! Cost is $10 and must be in before the start of race 6.
Dash for Cash
The $100,000 Dash for Cash is back this season with a new prize structure. If you spend $10 or more on select Dash for Cash race events who could be drawn to go for the cash!
If you get the correct order of finish you win $100,000. If you get the top 2 finishes you win $20, top three gets you $40, top 4 you win $60, top 5 is worth $80, and top 6 place finishers will get you $100 dollars.

Saturday, August 18th
Buy any ticket (starting at the minimum of $2) and you can tag your ticket for an additional $2. The tagged ticket is called the Wild Horses ticket. It is an instant pik triactor. If the three horses come in on the Wild Horses ticket (straight ticket); you win the payout of the triactor plus the jackpot that is tied to that race. The jackpots are worth more at Summerside! Every race offers a $50 Jackpot! Wild Horses is offered on every race. Jackpot amount is located in the top right hand corner of the race program. Ask your seller to tag your ticket.
